As part of our commitment to protect Chester’s historic Rows, Charles Thomas Heritage Fire Protection are currently completing Phase 2 of the installation of a new smoke detection system across the Rows.
The installation will take place on all Rows: Bridge Street Rows, Watergate Street Rows, Northgate Rows, and Eastgate Rows. All the installation will be at Rows walkway level, with pipe work installed on the ceilings, and electronic equipment located in, or near to, existing wall-mounted distribution boxes.
The Rows are, of course, a vital heritage asset and a very significant and sensitive environment for both residents, businesses, and also visitors. The methods and approach to these works will reflect this. The work will be undertaken in sections, to help keep any disruption to a minimum. It may be necessary to close the Rows walkway at times, but this will only be very short-term. No access to properties is needed now but we will let you know if this changes.
Information on the timetable, where works are taking place, progress etc. when known will be published on the Council’s website:
Cheshire West and Chester Council can undertake these works using the powers of the Cheshire County Council Act 1980. This work is part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and by Chester West and Chester Council.
