Supporting the uptake of electric vehicles is an important part of achieving the group’s broader aim to support the move towards a fair and sustainable transport system for Chester. One of the primary barriers to uptake is access to infrastructure to charge electric vehicles, particularly for city centre residents without off-street parking. Cheshire West and Chester Council have secured over £2m capital funding from Government’s Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) fund. The Council will use this funding to leverage substantial private investment in public electric vehicle charging infrastructure, working with an established Chargepoint Operator. We hope to be in a position to appoint an operator in mid-2025, with roll-out of the infrastructure over the following five years.
